AIMS workshop on volunteer computing

Participants from 18 African countries are taking part in a workshop on volunteer computing in Muizenberg, South Africa from 16 to 22 July 2007. Volunteer computing is a technology that allows science projects to use idle computing cycles from millions of home computers around the world, offered by volunteers.

Danilo Huda Mohamed
Huda is a sudanese lecturer at the Computer Science Department Faculty of Mathematical Sciences University of Khartoum. Her main interests are in Distributed systems and Networking. She recently completed her P.h.D in Electrical Engineering.
Jan Groenewald
Jan has a background in Cryptography and Algebraic Geometry, and is now system administrator at AIMS, where he spreads Free Software to scientists and ponders the future of science and technology on the African continent. He likes to braai.
Danilo William Kamdem
William, Cameroonian, is computer science Engineer - specialist in Internet and Multimedia Information System. He's currently " Responsable des formations" at Central Africa Bureau of university Agency of Francophonie (AUF), in Yaounde - Cameroun.It devotes its spare time in volunteers projects through NGO Sud&TIC and CyberVolunteers Program.

Eloi Appora
Computing scientist at the Université de Bangui (Central African Republic), Eloi works at the setup of an optical fiber network for the interconnection of the university sites.

Danilo Sihem Kalli
Sihem, from Algeria, is a Phd student and also a teacher. Her area of research is High enegy physics and she is currently working on Cosmic Rays.
Danilo Francois Grey
Francois is part of the IT Communications Team at CERN, the people who brought you Gridcast, Grid Café and lots of other Griddy stuff. He's a big fan of volunteer computing as a way to get people interested and actively involved in
science. He helped launch the LHC@home project and is part of the Africa@home
partnership.
